2022 AHAEEF Scholarship Applications

Applications are currently open for The Alabama Housing Authorities Education and Enrichment Fund (AHAEEF) Scholarship.

Applicants must be a resident of a Public Housing community or a part of a Housing Choice Voucher (formerly known as Section 8) household.


Please note:
• Applications are due to Marie Mhoon, Director of Resident Services by April 01st, 4:00pm.
mmhoon@mobilehousing.org or call 251-434-2249.

• NO handwritten applications will be accepted. They are fillable pdf’s, so complete, print and scan into ONE file with the supporting documentation.

• Also, applications are for undergraduate studies, post-graduate applications will not be accepted.

Reese’s Senior Bowl and Mobile Housing Authority Partnership NFL FLAG LEAGUE

 
The Reese’s Senior Bowl and the Mobile Housing Authority (MHA) have teamed up to provide public housing youth the opportunity to participate on an NFL FLAG team. For six weeks boys and girls ages 6-12 will stay physically active by playing flag football while learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
 
NFL FLAG, powered by USA Football, is also part of NFL PLAY 60, the league's youth health and fitness campaign. The program promotes physical fitness by getting kids active for 60 minutes a day. FOR MORE INFO: Visit www.nfl.com/play60
 
“The Senior Bowl is excited to be working with the Mobile Housing Authority to provide kids in our community growing up in public housing an opportunity to compete and learn life lessons through the sport of football. This partnership furthers our mission of connecting with all parts of Mobile,” said Jim Nagy, Reese’s Senior Bowl Executive Director.
 
“The Mobile Housing Authority is thrilled about its partnership with the Senior Bowl. As a member of the Mobile Arts & Sports Association, the Senior Bowl’s parent organization, it is especially gratifying to help the Senior Bowl broaden its community connections,” Michael E. Pierce, Mobile Housing Authority Chief Executive Officer.
 
The 2022 fall season will run September through October with league play held exclusively on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the University of South Alabama Intramurals Fields. MHA will secure sponsorships to pay all participating public housing youth NFL Flag League $50 cost (includes NFL jersey, flags, free skills Kickoff Camp).
 
MHA will announce league dates and registration information this summer.

Remote Video Inspections for HCV Landlords

Happy New Year! In our commitment to continue providing affordable housing options to Mobile County residents, and foster a great relationship with you as our Landlord Partner, Mobile Housing Authority (MHA) would like to update you on changes happening in 2022.

The COVID-19 Self Certification Forms for Initial Move-In Inspections expired December 31, 2021. As of January 1, 2022, all move-ins must be preceded by Remote Video Inspection (RVI). Once the Request for Tenancy (RFTA) has been reviewed and processed, the Inspections Department will contact you with inspection appointment details and your Zoom link. The unit must be move in ready and completely empty. The participant MAY NOT occupy the unit until it has passed the RVI. Although the inspection is conducted remotely, the inspector will not move forward if the unit is occupied.

Retiree Honored - Randall Schaerer

November 11, 2021

At MHA's Board of Commissioners meeting on November 9th, Mr. Randall Schaerer was honored for his 29 years of service from 1992 to 2021.
He was presented with a plaque and a copy of the proclamation describing his service to MHA.

The Board of Commissioners of the Mobile Housing Authority (MHA) will conduct a Public Hearing to obtain comments on its proposed 2022 Capital Fund Program Grant (CFP) and 5-Year CFP Plan. Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) MHA is closed to the general public. Therefore, the Public Hearing will be held electronically.
