Resident Spotlight - Jalisa Henderson

The Mobile Housing Authority is excited to highlight our Public Housing residents and Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) participants that are accomplishing their goals and making a difference in the community.

It is our honor to introduce you to MHA's first Resident Spotlight:

Resident Name: Jalisa Henderson

Address: Orange Grove

Occupation: Licensed Practical Nurse

Short Term Goal: Continue to be kind to others

Long Term Goal: Become a Registered Nurse

Jalisa Henderson earned a (LPN) from Coastal Community College in October 2021 and obtained employment at Eight Mile Nursing & Rehabilitation making $20.00 an hour. She also works part-time at Alta Pointe Health.

Henderson plans to enroll in the Fall of 2022, to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and fulfill her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.

Henderson's passion for healthcare began when she was just a little girl.

"I want to help people because my grandfather taught me to always care about people no matter what the situation is. My grandfather influenced me in so many different ways with his kind and generous spirit. I love helping people. That's what made me want to be a nurse," said Henderson.

She likes to go shopping and do puzzles for fun. Her favorite color is white and she has two brothers.

How has the Mobile Housing Authority played a role in her life?

"It has helped me by giving me housing based on my income which helped me in school. I had more time to study and pass nursing school," said Henderson.

Congratulations Jalisa Henderson for being the Mobile Housing Authority's June Resident Spotlight!

We are proud of you. Continue to strive forward in life and make a difference.

MHA Statement Regarding RV Taylor Shooting

MHA Statement Regarding RV Taylor Shooting

May 31, 2022

“Our hearts are heavy this morning following the death of an 11-year-old resident at RV Taylor Plaza. According to MPD, the child was shot and killed Monday evening inside his own home. Three vehicles were also struck by bullets. The Mobile Housing Authority is saddened and angered by this tragedy. No child should have to go through this. Children should be safe inside their homes and not met with gunfire. Gun violence in our communities must stop! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

Update: Demolition of RV Taylor & Thomas James Place

The Mobile Housing Authority is years away from demolition and disposition at R.V Taylor Plaza and Thomas James Place. Demolition is expected to begin in early 2024. Request for Proposals (RFP) will likely be put out around that time.

In the interim, MHA will relocate residents.

Contractors requesting to be placed on Mobile Housing Authority's bid list should continue to check our website (http://www.mobilehousing.org). We will announce openings when the appropriate time comes. Thank you for your interest.
